Worksop Meet 2011
On Sunday 28th of August swimmers from Metro competed in the Worksop Dolphins SwimmingClub – 27th Dukeries Open Meet which was held at Ponds Forge.
The competition was held over a morning and afternoon session and also comprised of age group relay teams in the Freestyle and IM with everyone who finished in the top six receiving a medal. Once again Rotherham came away with the honour of top club.
Girls Competition
Proving what an outstanding swimmer she is Charlotte Pearson (17) came away with an outstanding four Gold medals in the 50 and 100 Fly, 50 and 100 Freestyle and Silver in the 50 Backstroke, Charlotte also won the Skins competition as well as winning the top performance for her age group. Emily Shone (15) came away with Silver medals in the 50 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke with Bronze medals in the 100 Breaststroke and 50 Backstroke and finally a 6th position in the 100 Fly. Abbie Hull (13) who is fast becoming a Backstroke specialist took Silver medals in the 50 and 100 event. Rebecca Bamber (11) proved just how versatile she is by winning medals in all four strokes which were Silver in the 100 Backstroke, Bronze in the 100 Breaststroke, 4th in the 100 Freestyle and 5th in the 100 Fly. Holly Sotheran (12) on the comeback trail after illness proved yet again what an outstanding swimmer she is by taking Silver in the 50 Fly with Bronze in the 100 Fly and 4th in the 50 Freestyle with 6th in the 50 Backstroke. Fourteen year-old Jessica Bushby took Bronze in the 50 Freestyle with 4th in the 50 Fly and 5th in the 100 Fly, also 14 Shannon Eades won 4th in the 100 Breaststroke and 6th in the 50 Backstroke. Bethany Woodcock (14) took 4th in the 100 Fly and 6th in the 50 Breaststroke with Nicole Clarke (14) taking 6th in the 100 Breaststroke. Rebecca Finnie (12) came 5th in the 50 Backstroke and 6th in the 50 Fly with Kimberley Bush (15) taking 6th places in the 50 Fly and Breaststroke.
In the girls relay events Metro came away with the Gold medals in the 12 and under 200 medley and 200 Freestyle competition, the team consisted of Rebecca Finnie, Holly Sotheran, Rebecca Bamber, Hannah Dannatt, Kayley Britten and Abbie Ackroyd. In the 14 and under age groups Metro entered two teams coming away with 2 Golds and Two Bronze medals, the teams consisted of, Holly Sotheran, Bethany Woodcock, Jessica Bushby, Nicole Clarke, Shannon Eades, Abbie Hull, Rebecca Britten and Fiona Connell.
Boys Competition
Robert Pearson (13) once again had an outstanding day by claiming a magnificent seven medals which consisted of Gold’s in the 50 and 100 Backstroke, Silver in the 100 Breaststroke, Bronze in the 50 Fly, 4th in the 50 Breaststroke, 5th in the 50 Freestyle and 6th in the 100 Freestyle and to top it all off Robert also won top performance in his age group. Fourteen year-old George Russell continued in his winning ways by taking Gold medals in the 50 Fly and Freestyle with a Bronze medal in the 100 Fly and 4th in the 100 Backstroke , George also won top performance for his age group. Adam Parkes (17) claimed a fantastic six medals which consisted of Gold in the 100 Backstroke, Silvers in the 50 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke, 4th in the 100 Freestyle, 5th in the 50 Freestyle and finally 6th in the 50 Breaststroke. Sixteen year-old James Shiel came out top in an extremely close 100 Fly taking the Gold medal and also a Silver medal in the 50 Fly, also sixteen Josh Whitehurst claimed an impressive four medals which were, Gold in the 100 Breaststroke ,Bronze in the 100 Freestyle, 4th in the 50 Breaststroke and 5th in the 50 Backstroke. Matthew Sotheran (15) took an outstanding 6 medals with Silver in the 100 Fly, Bronze in the 50 Fly and 100 Backstroke, and a hat-trick of 4th places in the 50 backstroke and Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, Matthew also came second in the open skins competition considering he is only 15 this was a fantastic achievement. Josh Hillman (13) was again put in solid performance claiming 4 medals which were Bronze in the 100 Backstroke, 4th in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Fly and 5th in the 50 Backstroke with Joel Mitchell (13) claiming the Bronze medal in the 50 Backstroke. In the boys relay event metro only entered one team in the 14 and under category however they took Gold in both the 200 Freestyle and 200 IM, the team consisted of George Russell, Josh Hillman, Robert Pearson, Joel Mitchell and Thomas Hesling.
