Yorkshire Winter Competition 2010
On the weekend of the 9th and 10th October Ponds Forge was the venue for the Yorkshire Swimming Association Winter Competition. Rotherham Metro had a sizeable squad competing and they came away with many PBs, medals and lots of top ten finishes.
Leading the way was fourteen year-old Matthew Sotheran who struck gold in the 100M Freestyle and 200IM and also claimed two silver medals in the 100M Backstroke and 100M Fly and he followed this up with a Bronze medal in the 100M Breaststroke. Charlotte Pearson competing in the 14 and over category claimed the Silver medal in the 100M Fly and also finished seventh in the 100M Freestyle. Thirteen year-old George Russell had a very eventful weekend culminating in a Silver medal in the 100M Fly and finishing in the top ten in the 100M Freestyle and 200IM. Eleven year-old Connor Neal claimed the bronze medal in an extremely competitive 100M Fly and also had top ten finishes in the 200IM (4th), 100M Breaststroke (10th) and 100M Freestyle (6th). Robert Kirk also eleven finished 4th in the 100M Fly, and 5th in the 100M Freestyle, Ten year-old Jack McGann had a good two days by finishing 9th in the 100IM and 5th in the 50M Freestyle. Eleven year –old girls Alice Aucott and Holly Sotheran had a busy two days were Alice finished 6th in the 100M Breaststroke, 4th in the 200IM, 8th in the 100Fly and 7th in the 100M Freestyle. Holly finished 6th in the 200IM, 5th in the 100M Fly and 6th in the 100M Freestyle. In the 14 and over age group Emily Shone managed 4th in the 100M Breaststroke just missing out by a few hundredths of a second for the bronze medal and also finished 9th in the 100M backstroke and thirteen year-old Jessica Bushby put in a fantastic performance to claim 8th in the 100M Fly. In the younger age groups nine-year-old Kenyon Kellet was in outstanding form finishing 7th in the 50M Freestyle, 7th in the 100IM and 9th in the 50M backstroke. Also nine, Kayley Britten finished 10th in the 100IMand after a fantastic effort in the 50M Fly where she managed a very good 5th position. Jack Whitehurst (9) finished 8th in a highly competitive 50M Breaststroke and ten year-old Abbie Ackroyd finished 9th in the 100M Breaststroke.
