GB National Masters Senior Age Group Competition

It was a bumper weekend for records at the above gala held at Ponds Forge on the 24-26 October. A total of 72 World, European and British records fell on the weekend with nine of the medals being won by swimmers from Rotherham Metro’s Masters club. It was a successful return for Steve Millican who was previously a national age group swimmer for the club. In the 18 to 24 years age group Steve won gold in the 100m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke and Bronze in the 100m Fly. In the same group Alistair Crawford won Gold in the 50m Fly and Silver in the 50m Free. In the 60-64 years group Peter Ingham was first in both the 200 IM and 400 IM and in the 70-74 age group Keith Godbehere came second in the 1500m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle. The three remaining swimmers from the team Mick Pepper, Mick and Sarah Dawes (father and daughter) all attained personal best’s in their respective events. Their coach Pete Roebuck commented “yet again it was a superb weekend for the Masters squad, we are now training hard for the end of November when we will be visiting Derby to compete in a regional event”.
