Yorkshire Winters and NER Short Course 2008

A small group of swimmers from Rotherham Metro took part in the above event that took place at Ponds Forge on the 10th and 11th of October.

Holly Sotheran aged 9 did exceptionally well by winning Gold medals in the 50 metre Free, 50m Fly, 100m IM and a Silver in the 50m Back. Also appearing in the finals were Emily Shone, Alice Aucott, Rebecca Britten, Adam Parkes, Aaron Waterhouse, Matthew Sotheran, Robert Kirk and Connor Neal.

Head Coach Alan Kirton said “Congratulations to all swimmers, this is the most outstanding achievement to date for our club. With the number of entries increasing this year we achieved 21 finalists and Holly took top spot. Let’s all keep up the good work and put Rotherham Metro back in the spotlight”.

Seven swimmers from the Rotherham Metro A Squad attended the North East Region Short Course Championships which were held in Durham on the first and second of November. Even though it is early in the swimming season some swimmers still managed to gain personal best times. Simon Worne won a Bronze in the 50m Fly and Daniel Mclean picked up a Bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke. Coach Alan Kirton said “some of the other swimmers were feeling the effects of the hard training, as the aim was not to rest but to race hard regardless of the outcome”.
