British Gas ASA NER Youth and Senior Championships


Over the weekend of May 1st and 2nd the British Gas NER Youth and Senior Championships were held at Sunderland Aquatic centre, where a small team of elite Rotherham Metro swimmers took part. Many of the competitors reached the finals to take a medal position and attain PBs.

 

Metro had eight finalists in seven events on day one of the championships; Dale Waterhouse, Daniel McLean and Simon Worne led the way by reaching two finals each. Simon came 5th in the 50M breaststroke and 7th in the 50M butterfly event, Dale came home 9th in the 100m freestyle and then took bronze in a very close fought 200m breaststroke. Daniel McLean came 7th in the 50M butterfly and gained the Silver medal in the 100M youth backstroke event. Charlotte Pearson gained 8th position in the 100M butterfly final and Ben Bainbridge finished 10th in an extremely fast 200M butterfly final. The men's 400M-medley team consisting of Daniel McLean, Dale Waterhouse, Simon Worne and Aaron Waterhouse finished in 7th position in a very competitive race.

 

On day two of the finals Dale Waterhouse once again reached two more finals finishing 5th in the 200IM and 6th in the 50M freestyle final. Simon Worne was placed 5th in the 100M Breaststroke final and Daniel McLean finished 10th in the 50M backstroke final. In the last event of the day Charlotte Pearson produced an outstanding performance by finishing in the bronze position in the youth 50M Butterfly final. The men's 400M-Freestyle team consisting of Daniel McLean, Dale Waterhouse, Simon Worne and Aaron Waterhouse finished in 6th. Other Metro Swimmers taking part in the event were Thomas Nelson, Adam Parkes, Josh Whitehurst, Frances McGrother and Kelsey Longden.
